Obama admits he scoops First Dog's poop

1/10/2011

"He may be leader of the free world, but when he takes his dog for a walk, President Barack Obama says he bends down to do the nasty work of cleaning up like anyone else." ...Full story from CBS News

Turning dog waste into useful energy

10/18/2010

Experimental dog-waste digesters create methane gas to use as a carbon-neutral energy source. From The Daily Green.

The good, the bad, and the history

10/6/2010

We started the PUP program to educate citizens about bacteria and its impact on local waterways. But in the big water-quality picture, there's an even bigger dog.

One of the largest contributors to pollution problems the Sewer District is facing is combined sewer overflows. Some combined sewers (designed to carry sewage and stormwater in the same pipe) in Northeast Ohio date back more than a hundred years, and our own Frank Greenland, Director of Watershed Programs, summed it all up recently on a WCPN 90.3 appearance.

Triv talks PUP on WTAM

9/21/2010

Mike Trivosonno fans know how much he loves our PUP radio spot, so we wanted to thank him for the frequent mentions with a PUP gift bag filled with some of our PUP stuff.

He talked about it on last Thursday's show:

USA Today: Dog waste is lighting the way

9/14/2010

"Dogs are helpful to us in so many ways, from edging us on to get out for some exercise to helping calm down high school students. Now, The Spark Project has found another way: their waste is transformed into energy that lights street lamps." Read more from today's USA Today article.

PUP it up and send us your pics!

9/8/2010

Since our launch this summer, 526 pup owners have taken our pledge, we've sent out hundreds of bandannas, yard signs, window clings and stickers, and thousands of people have heard or seen our commercials. Our web traffic shows our message is out there, but we want to see it in action.

Send us some pics or video of your PUP stuff in action: Your pet in a bandanna, your clings or magnets on your car, a sign in your yard. Show us how you've PUPped it up.

Puppypalooza, a pitch, and a parade

8/27/2010

Almost 270 dogs and their 500 owners showed up at the Cleveland Indians game last night as the Tribe held its first Puppypalooza bring-your-dog-to-the-game event. Wally threw out the first pitch, we paraded around the field before the game, and we had a great response from the fans. Were you there? Leave us a comment.

Wally to throw first pitch at Indians' game

8/24/2010

We're a bit beyond the dog days of summer, but not at Progressive Field. As part of the Cleveland Indians' Puppypalooza -- where a dog-owner can bring his or her canine to the game Thursday, August 26 -- our PUP program will take center stage when our own Wally Waterdrop will throw out the first pitch. Might be tough to toe the rubber with no toes, though.

Dogs can't flush: Our new PUP spot

8/20/2010

Kids. Dogs. "Awww!" factor. We were going for it all in our latest PUP program spot. Let us know if we hit the mark.

Pups play at Open House

8/13/2010

We don't typically allow dogs on our facility grounds unless (1) they are official guide dogs, or (2) they are official spokesdogs for Sewer District programs. At our Open House at the Easterly Wastewater Treatment Plant August 7, we had the latter.

Zack and Harley (below) and Smokey, three of our employees' dogs, donned their PUP-pledge bandanna and got along very nicely with our 300+ guests.
